College Counselor - Loyola Academy

Qualified candidates must have knowledge of the college admission process, familiarity with colleges and universities across the country and excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. This position requires outstanding leadership, technology, public speaking, written communication, advising and problem-solving skills; a high degree of energy; sensitivity to the academic and personal needs of high school students; a commitment to the ideals of the profile of a Jesuit graduate at graduation. A bachelor’s degree is required and a master’s degree is preferred. Experience in college counseling and/or college admissions is required. The College Counselor will be responsible for working with approximately one fourth of the students in the junior and senior classes during their college search process.

Loyola Academy seeks a qualified, full-time College Counselor for the 2019-2020 school year.

The College Counselor will:
Work with students in all phases of the college selection and admission process including, but not limited to creating and refining the college list; application review; essay writing; interview skills; and standardized testing.
Conduct individual college counseling conferences with junior students and their parents/guardians to discuss and formulate college plans.
Meet with juniors and seniors on an ongoing basis.
Plan, publicize, and coordinate evening events for students and parents/guardians, including evening programs, summer workshops and Formation classes.
Work collaboratively with school counselors and teachers.
Establish and maintain professional relationships with admission representatives.
Prepare and disseminate financial aid and scholarship information to parents/guardians and students.
Utilize the Naviance web-based program to guide students and parents/guardians.
Visit colleges and universities to become familiar with their programs, services and admission policies and to articulate Loyola Academy’s program of academic success to admission officers.
Actively participate in professional development.

Education | Professional Requirements

 Qualified applicants will have: 

A Master’s Degree in school counseling or related field is preferred. 

A minimum of three years of experience in college counseling or college admissions or its equivalent.
